Area Amateur Astronomers The Albany Area Amateur Astronomers exists to foster public interest and enjoyment of astronomy. We are a group of over 125 enthusiasts, from beginner to expert. We meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 PM at the Schenectady Museum, with the exception of the month of August when we meet at the George Landis Arboretum in Esperance, NY. All meetings are free of charge and open to the public. Meeting programs include speakers, films, slide shows, and planetarium demonstrations. Some club members write a daily astronomical telephone message for Dudley Observatory. Phone 382-7584 after 5 PM or on weekends to hear this free recording. Collection The Museum offers a world class collection of objects that span the history of western art from the 4th century BC through the 20th century. The Museum's founders, Louis and Charlotte Hyde, acquired the majority of objects during a fifty-year period of avid and highly informed collecting. Many of these works, as well as recent acquisitions, are displayed in their home, known as Hyde House (1912). Open Tuesday thru Saturday 10am - 5pm; Thursdays 10am - 7pm; Sundays 12Noon - 5pm. Institute of Electrical and Electronic EngineersA virtual museum created by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers). Learn all about the evolution of sound recording as music and as part of movies. The interactive exhibit has demonstrations to visualize difficult concepts. Listen to how multi-track sound recording influenced popular music like the Beach Boys. There are exhibits on electricity, microwaves, the history of women in the electrical revolution and more! The Museum introduces the public to Iroquois by featuring their art, past and present, as a window into their culture. As an anthropological institution, it is informed by archeology, history, and research on the common creative spirit of modern artists and craftspeople. |

Museum The Junior Museum is dedicated to introducing visitors to a wide spectrum of science, history and the arts in a fun and friendly environment and to promote the development of children's interest in these many important topics. Museum visitors participate in overnights, workshops, birthday parties, performances, school group programs, and individual exploration of the galleries. Programs are targeted for children aged 2 to 15. |

Little Red Schoolhouse The Little Red Schoolhouse is a one-room schoolhouse built in 1879 and has been restored to its original condition by the Little Red Schoolhouse Historical Society. It is open to the public at specific times during the year, and can be viewed at other times by prior arrangement. |

Museum Of Dance The National Museum of Dance & Hall of Fame was established in 1986 and is the only museum in the nation dedicated to American professional dance. Located in the former Washington Bath House -- a spacious, airy 1918 Arts and Crafts-style building -- in the Saratoga Spa State Park, the Museum houses a growing collection of photographs, videos, artifacts, costumes, biographies and archives comprising a contemporary and retrospective examination of seminal contributions to dance. |

Museum Of Racing Our mission is to interpret the history and convey the excitement of Thoroughbred racing in America to the broadest possible audience. Unlike the Race Course, the Racing Museum is a year-round attraction, offering panel talks, film series, exhibits and an annual Kentucky Derby party, in addition to the numerous events set during the racing season. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is held every year in early August. |

New York State Museum The bright and open New York State Museum houses permanent and revolving exhibits of the history and landscape of New York. Walk in the front door and be greeted by the restored Cohoes Mastodon. Head to the right into the main gallery area, which includes revolving and visiting displays and permanent exhibits about the Adirondack Mountains, New York City, Harlem and the Native Americans of New York. There's a lot to see, and with an average 10 special exhibits per year, a lot worth coming back for.

County Historical Society Museum
SCHS is home to more than 60 portraits and landscapes related to Schenectady County people and places. Portraits include the Van Eps, Veeders, Glens, Sanders, Wemples, Marcellus, De Graff, Jacksons, Barneys, Yates, Rosa, Waltons, Potters, Stauring, and Schermerhorns. There are several paintings of the historic covered bridge over the Mohawk designed by Theodore Burr, a vibrant Erie Canal scene, and early 19th century street and farm scenes. Artists include Ammi Phillips, Asahel Powers, Ezra Ames, Cornelius Van Patten, John Wilkie, Samuel Sexton, and other regional artists. |
